Peruvian native Anibal Marcelo Seminario is a Latin Grammy & Grammy-nominated producer, saxophonist, composer, arranger, and educator.
Studying on a full scholarship, he earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Jazz Performance at California State University, Long Beach. Since graduating from CSULB, Anibal works in the greater Los Angeles area as a recording artist, arranger, and producer.
Seminario’s release “Tradiciones” received two Latin Grammy and a Grammy nomination. His latest album “Cuadra 11” features a wonderful mix between Peruvian sonorities and Jazz music.
As a touring artist, Anibal can currently be seen with Gordon Goodwin's Phat Band, and has performed with Googoosh, Eva Ayllón, and Alex Acuña in numerous countries including the United States, Chile, Peru, the United Arab Emirates, Sweden, Canada, Turkey, Armenia, Georgia, Cyprus, Kuwait, Germany, Holland, and Mexico. Seminario is currently the music director for prestigious Iranian singer Faramarz Aslani.
Anibal has also performed with world-class artists including Nestor Torres, Ramon Stagnaro, Andrea Bocelli, Omid, Streetlight Manifesto, Martik, Jerry Rivera, Gilberto Santa Rosa, James Morrison, and others. As a member of Alex Acuña’s Latin jazz band, 7’ven Bien, Seminario has been heard playing in Los Angeles and at the world- renowned Smithsonian Festival in Washington, DC.
Seminario is the arranger and music director for the musical “Dances of Peru,” a show that unites elements of Peruvian folklore, dance, acting and live music. He arranges all the music, conducts a 12-piece live band and plays several woodwind instruments. He is also an active arranger for the Peruvian community having written several commissions for high schools in Peru and Cultural Organizations such as Pro Jazz, Colegio Humboldt and others.
Additionally, Anibal remains an active educator and producer in his homeland city of Lima, Peru. He is the founder of the Lima Jazz Fest and has given free master classes, clinics and lectures at several institutions, such as the National Conservatory of Music, the National Air Force Band, Tempo School of Music, Pro Jazz, Colegio Santísimo Nombre De Jesús, and Colegio Alexander von Humboldt.

Tradiciones, in 2020, was seminario’s debut album advocating the marvelous culture and influential music of Perú. This album has captured the hearts of many around the world, receiving two Latin Grammy nominations, one for Best Latin Jazz/Jazz Album, and one for Best Arrangement for the track “La Flor de la Canela,” a vals criollo song composed by legendary Peruvian singer-songwriter Chabuca Granda. Tradiciones also received a nomination for the 63rd edition of the Grammy Awards, Best Latin Jazz Album category.
Draws sounds and instruments from the traditional Afro Peruvian style of his home country. The musical discourse that you hear on Cuadra 11 – the street where Seminario grew up in the Peruvian capital – is organic, sophisticated and of amazing virtuosity. In this album, the emphasis is placed on the confluence of Afro-Peruvian rhythms harmonized with jazz harmonies, but also with sound components of Cuban, Colombian and Brazilian folk music. For this album Seminario , produced all 12 songs. The album features the participation of the Peruvian conga player Alex Acuña, Cuban drummer Calixto Oviedo, American pianist Alex Flavell and world known Iranian guitarist Babak Amini, among others.
On The Way, is his latest release, features the original music of late composer Chris Pappas. Pappas, commissioned Seminario with the task of producing and arranging 6 original, unreleased, and unfinished big band charts that Pappas wrote during his early teen years. During the production of this wonderful album Chris Pappas lost his battle to cancer, making this his very last work of art. On The Way features Dayhan Diaz on Trumpet, Bob Lawrence on Trombone, Rayner Fernandez on Percussion, Babak Amini on guitar.
